Support Formula Funding for
Centers for Independent Living
Illinois currently funds CILs in a random, antiquarian manner,
which often shortchanges Centers with greater populations
to serve. Simple formula funding would insure an
economically sound solution, which would SAVE millions of tax dollars.
How the formula works -
The formula is based on census figures and is calculated
on a county-by-county basis. The formula takes into account
-
population of people with disabilities,
-
area geography,
-
employment statistics,
-
availability of services to people with disabilities,
- and the economy of the area.
The formula was established to bring some equity to our
state's method of funding Centers for Independent Living.
It is not an end, but a beginning to meet the specific
needs of serving the state's disabled population.
CILs are saving Illinois Taxpayers millions of dollars each year.
$14.2 million were saved alone in FY04 !!!
Simple formula funding is a solution that will save Tax dollars
now & in the future.
Actions Needed:
Contact your Senators and Representatives.
Tell them you support Centers for Independent Living.
Tell them you support Formula Funding for CIL’s.
